    Fantastic Product For the Price
    Rating:5 out of 5 stars
My husband bought this slow cooker for me for Christmas. Our family of 7 had outgrown my previous crockpot and I had questioned for something larger. I couldn’t believe the size of the thing when I took it out of the box! This crockpot will hold anything I could possibly want to cook in it. The shape makes it possible to place odd shaped pieces of meat in it without having to maneuver it all around like a round crockpot sometimes requires. Other reviewers have commented about different features they want to see, but for the price, it has a excellent selection. The defrost feature is nice as it cooks frozen meat at a higher temperature until thawed (for safety reasons) and then drops the temperature down to low. (The owner’s manual says you could also cook frozen meat on the high setting safely, but the defrost setting is handy if you want to really slow cook a piece of meat but don’t want to have to bother remembering to turn the temp down when it is thawed.) Others have commented on it cooking too hot for a slow cooker. All I can say is that I have used it the same as I have always used a slow cooker and have had the same results. Most recipes call for 4 hours on high or 8 on low. I haven’t had any problems using those guidelines. Some have commented on the cover not fitting tightly, but I haven’t had that problem, though it is a set on fit and if went to one side or the other, the cover will allow steam to escape. It is a nice glass cover and not plastic which in my mind is certainly a plus. I don’t have any recipes that would require me to fill a slow cooker this size right to within an inch of the top, so I haven’t experienced any problem with overflow. I’ve been very pleased with this so far. It’s a nice slow cooker with a nice price tag.

I want to have known this product’s features (e.g., timer) otherwise it was received quickly which was vital to me.

I bought this as a gift and my wife likes it. I’m not sure what the people who have said it cooks to quick are doing but everything we have cooked has come out perfect. It does need to be on low or auto if you are using it as a slow cooker. If you place it on high its going to cook quicker.

IT BOILS ON LOW WITHIN 1 HOUR
    Rating:1 out of 5 stars
I figured that the reviews about it boiling couldn’t have been as terrible as was said. I was dissapointed to find out that when on low it boiled within 1 hour. Yesterday I cooked a full bag of chicken with sauce and cheese and I set it on low so that it would be done in 4 hours …lets just say it was done in 45 minutes so I just turned it off and let it set until we ate and we finished up eating dinner around 4:00pm. If it boiled hard on high I could handle that but on low? Isn’t that the point of a slow cooker, to cook low? If thats all it is going to do one could just use a pot on the stove and save the 40 bucks. I bought this one because it was about 20 dollars cheaper than any other 8qt crock pots out there…I went cheap…I got cheap.

    Large and simplistic
    Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I have a large family (I now have more than 4 children), and also don’t need all the extra bells and whistles that so many of the crock pots now have. This crock pot fits both of those criteria. I have been VERY pleased with this crock pot thus far. It does run a bit hot, but knowing that, I can adjust my cooking times and cook on low if I need to, and doesn’t change my 5 star rating for this item. This has been a wonderful crock pot with no complaints, from a mom who cooks homemade food, in large quantities, daily.

Cooks well, poor manual, could offer additional features

I’ve been using the Maxi Matic MST-800V Elite Gourmet 8-1/2 quart slow cooker for about 2 weeks now. The excellent:

    –Relatively low price.

–Huge capacity means lots of leftovers for tomorrow.

    –Cooks well.

I recommend this product, especially given the price : value ratio. It’s worth it. I couldn’t find any other slow cooker this large at a similar price.

What would make it a five star cooker?

    The following:

–The glass lid and the ceramic insert have gaps when one is on the other. Sometimes steam escapes through the small gaps, drying out the food. But, there is a specific combination of lid in one direction that fits better. I place stickers on the “excellent side” of the lid and the handle of the ceramic insert. When I match the stickered sides prior to turning it on, no steam escapes. Manufacturing the product so that this defect doesn’t happen would be better.

–An instruction manual that clarifies how the features really work. For instance, the device as a “defrost” setting, yet the manual does not clarify how this setting works. How long does it take to defrost by weight? Who knows. What temperature is the defrost setting at? Who knows.

–A “keep warm” feature. So that once the food is cooked it can be kept warm until time to serve. Perhaps the mysterious “defrost” setting is also a keep warm setting, but, again, who knows?

–The ability to set a timer and have the device go from say “high” to “keep warm” after X hours.

–A built in meat thermometer (ok, maybe I’m dreaming, but…) that would ensure the device switches off when the interior of the meat reaches X degrees.

If anyone reading this review understands how the defrost setting works, please add a comment and clarify what you’ve learned. And if anyone from the manufacturer is reading this: a) fix your manual and b) comment here in the meantime to tell us how the defrost setting works.

Given these issues, it’s still a 4 star item. If you’re looking for a large capacity cooker at a excellent price, buy this item.

    Thanks.

Nice huge slow cooker. Only 1 small complaint, there should be one more lower temperature setting. Still makes fantastic food, without burning anything. Excellent price too!

    Rating:5 out of 5 stars
This is my 2nd Elite, like it for the large size, perfect for large family.. Holds a large ham for cooking as well. Per other reviews, yes it does cook hot and quick, but I knew that and it is the only slow cooker I saw with a defrost button, we really like that option. I would buy it again.

    Works real well
    Rating:4 out of 5 stars
This high capacity, simple to use slow cooker is simple to use and works real well. Only one problem, there is an auto/defrost button which I can’t figure out how to use and there is no mention of the button in the written instructions I received. Plus, it would be nice if it had a timer. Other than that it cooks just fine and nothing ever sticks to the sides or bottom of the ceramic pot itself.I searched for months for a large capacity cooker and this one does the trick.

Just made a wonderful pot roast with potatoes, carrots, celery and onions. It’s in the high 90s and the humidity is high but here I am in the kitchen with my slow cooker cooking away and no heat from the stove or the oven! I like it! Family says it’s the best ever. The roast came out fork tender and the veggies were just perfect ( thought they would get soggy after such a long simmer but no-way they were perfect. Next is a pork roast and chicken and dumplings! I’ve made pot roasts before and veggies all in the oven. Takes a long time and I would only make it in the winter. This was fantastic – place the ingredients in, turn it to low and jump in the pool and get some sun, chat with the neighbors and then family comes over and we delight in a fully cooked meal by 4:00 pm. Thanks for a fantastic product.

  13. H. L. Wright says:

A excellent looking Crock Pot that is huge enough to do the job!
    Rating:4 out of 5 stars
Low seems a bit warmer than I am used to in a slow cooker but it did an brilliant job on the couple of roasts and stew I have place it to use on. The defrost mode with automatically going to low is a nice touch. All it lacks is a end timer with a keep warm mode. I’ve always had a problem with overfilling in my 6qt. but now I have room to spare while adding all the ingredients my recipe calls for with my own add-ins.

    Huge slow cooker
    Rating:4 out of 5 stars
I have only used this twice, but so far, I like it. I made meatballs and beef stew. I made a ton of food and didn’t even come close to filling the thing up. My only concern is that when it was on high, the food was boiling pretty quick. I will probably mostly use it only on low.

I just recently took first place in a chili contest which was all cooked in this pot. I cook roast, chicken ribs and much more. I have no thought how well this cooks food, I use this to make soap not soup!!!
    Rating:5 out of 5 stars
Stop reading here if you are plotting on buying this to cook food in. I have no thought how well it works for food. I can tell you that it is perfect for making cold and hot processed soap. The low setting is fantastic to melt down the oils I use. For cold process soap I then turn off the crock pot, add my lye mixture and start stirring in the ceramic insert. It keeps the soap warm enough that it reaches trace honestly quickly. For hot process soap I leave the crock pot turned on low and follow my soap recipe directions.

I used this nice large slow cooker for only 10 months before it just stopped working. It was very well taken care of and only very light usage. My husband took it apart to see if there was something obviously incorrect with no luck. Now I will have to start all over looking for a large cooker.

  23. USAMOM says:

    Excellent but has some issues.
    Rating:3 out of 5 stars
I have now owned two of these crocks, a total of two years, and have gotten a lot of use from them. I have a huge family that needs more food than the small crocks can provide. It does hold 8 qts. but I am not sure how the manufacturers measure. I am able to do dinner recipies times two. I have noticed that it does cook quicker than usual crocks but you learn how long it takes and you adjust. You can not have everything perfect. I bought this crock for its size, not its looks, and it is a quick slow cooker. The sides get hot but so do other cookers. If you are silly enough to want to touch the side of a slowcooker while it is cooking then you deserve to get burned. Everyone should know better than to have anything that is cooking where kids can reach too. I reckon the stainless steel is like cleaning any other item that is stainless steel. You have to clean it, and if you don’t like stainless steel, don’t buy it.

Now, on to the reason I am on my second crock. I broke my first when I bumped it, not dropped it and not slammed, bumped it into the side of my porcelain kitchen sink. It broke in half. I thought it was a fluke. I waited a while and found that I could not live with out it so I bought another one. When I was washing the new one, after I had it for a couple of months, I noticed that it had a crack running from one side to the other across the bottom. This is in the same place that the other broke. So, if you buy this crock make sure you check the bottom to make sure that it does not have a crack in it before you even use it.

Other than these issues, I like this crock pot. It is the only one of its size around and believe me I have looked. It does cook a bit quick but I have learned its tricks. In this case size does matter to me. Delight in!

    Garbage
    Rating:1 out of 5 stars
I should have listened to the negative reviews here, before I bought this. First of all, it does not hold (inside the volume of space available in the ceramic “cooker” part, 8.5 quarts. When you leave the rim clear for the lid, it BARELY hold 8 quarts. I did a water test with a 1/2 gallon milk carton to measure this.

Second, and most importantly, this thing is NOT a “SLOW cooker!” It is a QUICK cooker! I followed all directions, I read the manual, and then I place together our family chili recipe and place it into the “slow cooker” to simmer until morning, thinking that in the morning, I would learn well simmered chili. Nope.

I filled the ceramic part, leaving about an inch from the rim, as the instructions tell you to do, having to alter my recipe to do so. I left the cooker on low, on a stable surface, not heat sensitive, and away from all disturbances. In the morning (about 5.5 hours later) I awoke to a “slow cooker” which had BOILED the food, and caused it to OVERFLOW the confines on the ceramic “cooker” part, onto the counter, over the lid, and even into the space between the ceramic “cooker” part, and the heating base under it. This made a huge mess, and nearly inedible food.

I have since cleaned the thing as best I could, and contacted Amazon for a return mark. This hunk of junk is going back to the store. I will try a “slow cooker” from another brand and see if I get better results, because this thing is not a “slow cooker.” Just to be sure it wasn’t a fluke, I place just regular water into it, left the same amount of space as I had with the chili, and set it on low, and went to go do some house work. About 3 hours later, the water was BOILING, and steaming, and overflowing the “slow cooker.”

Save your money for a different product by a different manufacturer.

Huge removable crock which fits TONS of food; you can make 3X as many vegetables with the roast which is nice. Stainless steel outer unit is kind of flimsy in feel but the crock itself is sturdy and heavy. Works fantastic. Brilliant value for the $. Auto defrost setting a plus.

    8.5 QTS? NOT!!!
    Rating:1 out of 5 stars
Got this last week, cooked a first batch of chili yesterday, and this thing is going back. Why?

    1. When you make a batch of soup, have a known amount for dinner and place the rest in standard containers to freeze, you find out the actual capacity of the slow cooker. This thing is between 6.5 and 7 quarts max.

    2. The crock is a loose fit in the base and has to be carefully centered or you get “hot spots” where the crock is too close to the base. On the “hot spots” you get boling and sticking.

    3. I don’t know what this fad with brushed stainless steel is about, but my experience years ago in a commercial environment was reinforced by this cooker. Brushed stainless steel mars easily and is hard to clean without marking. And this thing gets hot!
