I like the large size of this slow cooker – perfect for a roast or chicken. I have only used it once so far and the pot roast cooked perfect on low all day. I will be feeding chili to a large group soon, preparing it ahead and using the locking lid for traveling.

    Superior Unit Produces Yummy Food
    Rating:5 out of 5 stars
When my wife told me she wanted a new slow cooker/crock pot for Christmas I nearly choked. First because she was asking for something so practical and second because I had no thought what to start looking for in one of these. Thankfully, there were plenty of reviews here on Amazon to school me. So thanks to all that wrote before me.

So far we’ve had five meals from this unit. Each one has been fantastic. From the wife’s feedback this is an simple to use unit that cooks evenly and thoroughly. She really likes the solid feel of it; the heavy duty inner crockery and the glass lid are particularly robust. She’s not a huge pot-luck kind of person, but agrees that the built in lid locks and spoon holder will come in handy some time. On a side note, the included spoon is of honestly excellent quality. I was expecting something cheap and flimsy. Really, it’s about like any other plastic serving spooon you’d find in a department store.

Me, I’m the head dish washer so I look at the unit from the clean up angle. The crockery is simple to remove from the base. Both the lid and the crockery are real simple to clean; there’s no problem getting baked on food off of them. As well, the outer metal base wipes down easily and seems to resist collecting streaks or finger prints.

We’re well and truly satisfied with this slow cooker. It’s a well built unit that cooks food just as advertised. You can’t go incorrect with it.

    Fantastic Crock Pot
    Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I’ve had this model slow cooker for about 5 years now and it has never let me down. Simple to transport even without the carrying case, it has traveled many miles on the floor of my car. I just wrap it in a couple of towels and the heat stays in, even if I am traveling 30 miles to the neighboring town. I bought it for the specific reason that it had the locking lid with a rubber gasket. Although I have never used the nifty small tags that can go in the front of the cooker to identify what’s in it, I can see how they would be useful at a large gathering. From my experience I would whole heartedly recommend this product. (BTW I paid much more than Amazon’s price at the local huge box store. This price is a excellent deal!)

Wish I hadn’t waited so long
    Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I had a Rival 5 1/2 qt. oval slow cooker that was not a slow cooker at all. I had to wait to add potatoes or carrots until about 3 hours before the meat was done else they’d be total mush — on LOW setting. Sauce would be 1/2 gone by the time it was done, boiled away — on LOW. I resorted to coming home at noon to turn it to WARM for a few hours, then turn it back to LOW an hour or so before dinner. My bean pot medley was so dry I had to add water before serving. One disappointment after another, and I finally came to Amazon and read the reviews of different slow cookers. Sure enough, the Rival received lots of complaints about being too hot. The Hamilton Beach Stay or Go slow cooker had a lot of positive reviews, so I chose to give it a go. Now I can only say, I wish I hadn’t waited so long to replace the Rival. I like everything about it. It works perfectly. I also really like the black ceramic liner. I despise throwing things away that (sort of) work so I will be taking the Rival to the local thrift store in it’s original box and write in large letters in black felt pen: COOKS HOT.

Added bonuses: I ordered one day and received it the next. The price was reasonable and qualified for free shipping!

    My First Slow Cooker
    Rating:4 out of 5 stars
I have been thinking about eating healthier and cooking at home so this gives me greater control of what I eat. I read the reviews and chose on this model as I wanted a large slow cooker that could handle a roast or whole chicken. Thanks to the people that took the time to leave a review as this was very helpful to me. Everything was fantastic! I ordered on 12-9-09 and it arrived on 12-11-09 with free shipping! I used it nearly immediately and it did not dissappoint. Clean, functional design with some useful features like the spoon rest, the lock down top and the convienent handles that make it very simple to carry. I paid attention and this unit seems to heat evenly and accurately. I am cooking Sesame Chicken in my slow cooker as I type this and I reckon I will buy a smaller slow cooker for making Chili, Stews, or soup. I am very pleased with this product.

Does the Job, but some irritation
    Rating:3 out of 5 stars
I must admit that my main irritation with this crock pot is that it is not programmable. Therefore, I should not have bought it.

In anycase, I suppose it gets the job done. Two things about the design really irritated me. The lid locks get stuck in the holding handles of the pot when they are not in use. It’s not a huge deal, but the design team should have done a better job to make sure you could easily go the locks out of the way when you are cooking. I pinched my finger trying to squeeze the locks between the handles to get them to lay on the side of the pot.

Lastly, the lid does not sit on the crock firmly. What I mean, is I was never sure if the lid was closed or not. It just sort of sits on the top without any assurances that it is on correctly.

Oh, and one other thing, the directions say be careful because the bottom can scratch up (mess up) the counter tops. They should have made slide resistant bottom. While I was trying to go the locks out of the way, the pot was walking too much!

On the bright side, I guess it does what it is suppose to do. And I got it at walmart for $30. Excellent price. But ultimately, I want a programmable slow cooker so I will be taking it back.

  8. Chris S. says:

    Very nice for potlucks, etc.!
    Rating:5 out of 5 stars
Have owned this product for 2 1/2 years and use monthly or so for potlucks. It’s fantastic! Even works for dishes cooked on stovetop or in oven instead and simply transferred to slow cooker for serving on a low setting at work, church, friend’s house, or wherever. Removable ceramic liner makes clean up a snap once you get home with or without leftovers.

Strongly recommend this product. Am thinking of buying another to have a second for large gatherings (perhaps Hamilton Beach 33967 Set ‘n Forget 6-Quart Programmable Slow Cooker, which appears exactly the same except it includes with its digital functions the ability to resume cooking automatically after power interruptions (so unfinished meals don’t spoil, if power goes out while you’re away and the cooker can’t restart after power returns, as is usual with slow cookers).

Oh, and do yourself a favor if you will travel with this: buy a carrying bag Crockpot SCBAG Travel Bag for 7-Quart Slow Cookers — not officially made for the Hamilton Beach but fits perfectly! Protects food and appliance, and provides double handles for one-handed carrying. A luxury at only $10 (also available at Walmart for the same price). Convenient, and helps keep food warmer during transport, too.

P.S. Lid is NOT 100% spill-proof — designed to leave a small space on purpose between pot and lid, so air can escape to prevent explosion if food is very, very hot when lid is secured. A small bit of liquid could escape too if unit tilts heavily during travel. Another fantastic reason for the travel bag — contains any minor spills that might occur if you’re transporting soup, which we do all the time! Serving spoon is shaped to function as a ladle, not just a spoon, so don’t hesitate to use this for soup — just keep an extra paper towel or two handy and delight in. (We minimize tilting by setting unit in its travel bag on floor of trunk or back seat, reducing sources of spills just to swinging bag with excessive gusto while porting between house and car!)

    Decent so far

Have only had product for a few months now but seems to work up to my expectations. Although I found out after purchasing it I could have gotten same thing at WalMart for $32.00.

  10. A. Elder says:

    I LIKE THIS CROCKPOT!
    Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I chose this as my mother’s day gift several years ago. (I bought this at Wal-Mart for around $25 to $32.) I LIKE IT! Not only can I cook fantastic food for my family of 6, but once a month we have a pot luck at the church. Prior to getting this crock pot we had NUMEROUS spills with many different contraptions to get our ancient crock pot with the food inside up and down the small hilly ride to church. I haven’t had one spill since getting Hamilton Beach Stay or Go slow cooker. The clamps anchor the lid down sealing the black tube-like seal in place. We use this a lot!

It’s not fancy, but the features that I liked were:

#1 – the clamps to keep the food inside while it is being transported.

#2 – the sturdy handles make it simple to go the crock pot around without dread of spilling.

#3 – It has a place to place the name of the recipe that’s cooking in the

crock pot over the Hamilton Beach symbol. Since we go this around

quite often, it is a fantastic feature to have for the church potlucks.

    Fantastic Economical Crock Pot
    Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I have never owned a crock pot, but recently my friends have shared recipes that “require” one. After reading reviews at various cooking sites I chose on the Hamilton Beach Stay or Go. So far no complaints. I like the way the top latches and seals for simple transport. The spoon attaches to the top which is also handy. The huge oblong shape accomodates spareribs and huge roasts easily. The huge handles make for simple carrying. I haven’t found one negative thing. The price is fantastic.

    Sensational Cooker/Server
    Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I have had my share of slow cookers over the years but this one has to be the best I have ever come across. My daughter introduced me to it and I was so impressed with it’s size, looks and features I just had to have one. The high rubber grip handles are fabulous and I like the lock and go feature for traveling. No more spills in the back of the car!!! The settings are basic yet everything I need or want in a slow cooker. I also like that the spoon snaps in the lid area which also helps when traveling. I like the Hamilton Beach 6 quart SS Slow Cooker and use it 90% of the time for making Chili or Spagetti Sauce.

  13. K. Hennings says:

Have it over a year – Perfect for large families
    Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I bought this crockpot over a year ago, and with a family of 6 we use it heavily. I like the fact that the lid has clamps to transport dishes. The meals I make always turn out fabulous, and with its’ large size, I can keep leftovers for the next night.

This is a high-quality crockpot and has not failed me yet. There are various temperature settings, and the crock is heavy and well-made. It’s perfect for getting dinner on the table within a busy household. I highly recommend this product.

  14. M. Carter says:

    Works fantastic.
    Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I looked around for decent ratings on a slow cooker. Many were not fantastic: seemed to depend on the particular unit more than anything. I’ve used this for several weeks and it works fine. We’ll see for how long. It wasn’t nearly as expensive as a top line All-Clad. Has a simple on/off low/high dial. Perfect for me.

  15. Stephen Jepsen says:

I bought this as a gift for my wife. She’s very pleased with it, but did comment that the temperature regulation could be improved.

  16. Tiggeriffic says:

    Nice, but could be improved
    Rating:3 out of 5 stars
I already had two slow cookers/crock pots. I slow cook *A LOT*. I was looking forward to adding this as my third because it has a removable crock and had the gasket lock for travel.

    I LIKE the removable crock.

    The unit heats up nicely.

    Three “levels” is nice.

But why did they have to have plastic handles & spoon. It cheapens it up so. The plastic is not only *plastic*, but it’s flimsy plastic.

This unit would be so much nicer with additional attention paid to designing sturdier handles.

    A excellent basic slow cooker
    Rating:5 out of 5 stars
After reading the reviews about programmable slow cookers I chose to get the simpler version. It was quickly delivered. I used it four times, and I am pleased with it. I like the design, too.

    Best Kitchen Gadget
    Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I go to a lot of potlucks and this cooker is the best! The lid locks down nicely and I have a car (Toyota Matrix) that has an AC inverter in it, so I can plug this leak-proof cooker into the car and keep the food warm.

So I show up at potlucks with warm food in a nice looking crock pot and only have one dish to clean.

    I’m pleased.

    Pleased Accident
    Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I completely obliterated the lid to my Rival 6qt. programmable crock pot and when I contacted Rival regarding a replacement lid I never received a response. Time to get a new crock pot! I did my usual research via Amazon and learned this item. It arrived quickly with no fuss. My ancient Rival boiled everything to mush if I wasn’t careful, no matter the setting. My new Hamilton Beach isn’t as fancy, but it works fantastic! The High/Low/Warm settings all seem appropriately calibrated and I like the high handles and lid latches.

    I like this crock pot
    Rating:5 out of 5 stars
We received this crock pot quickly after ordering. We have been very pleased with this buy. It is a large crock pot, nice for our large family and/or groups. I like the locking feature, nice for when we take it on trips in the motor home, or take it to potluck dinners. I really delight in the “warm” heat setting, because I like to make soup in the morning, and have it available for when family members get hungry throughout the afternoon. Overall, a fantastic product.

    Brilliant crockpot!
    Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I finally replaced my 20 year ancient Rival crock pot with this Hamilton Beach model, and I like it. It cooks evenly, cleans easily and the oval shape is perfect for long-shaped foods like beef ribs and roasts. I also like the warm setting, for times when the food is cooked but we’re not quite ready for dinner. Its a small heavier to lift than my ancient one, but other than that, its perfect. I dont miss my ancient Rival at all!

    reliable and simple
    Rating:5 out of 5 stars
This cooker is much better than others I have had. It has high medium and low temps that are really what they say. The rubber seal is a huge improvement over simple lids and helps prevent dripping. It cleans up easily and doesn’t take up much space on the counter. Best of all the ceramic crock is fully glazed all over so it can be washed much more thoroughly than the ones with the unglazed bottom.

    Rating:5 out of 5 stars
After purching my Hamilton Beach it was delivered in a very nice secured box. I have used the slow cooker many time and have even left it on while I have gone to work. Its very safe and cooks very even throughout. Also if you use the new plastic cooking bags there is really no clean-up. I reckon now I will get me a much smaller cooker for soups and things.

  24. keelaay says:

    Fantastic slow cooker, fantastic value
    Rating:5 out of 5 stars
This is a fantastic slow cooker. Attractive stainless steel. Cooks evenly from the sides and the bottom. Perfect low setting (slow 6-7 hour cooking at about 170 degrees). High setting makes a minor simmer at the edges (about 2-3 hours at 190-200 degrees). Keep warm setting does just that. Nice seal on the lid — it even clamps down for travel. (Don’t use the clamps when cooking.) I wish it had an auto-shift, but nothing’s perfect. Fantastic value. Beware the terrible recipes in the instruction booklet! (Baked beans recipe is to buy a can of pre-made baked beans and cook for hours — why??) But who cares, at this price, you can have a few bucks left for a slow cooker cook book. A fantastic product at a fantastic price.

I can not tell you how many times I have had to clean my trunk or car interior because of spillage. Not anymore,it locks down and keeps things warmer longer. I am absolutely thrilled with the tenderness and ease of cooking with this slow cooker. As an extra bonus it is simple to clean.

  29. Gail Cooke says:

HANDY TO HAVE AND SIMPLE TO USE
    Rating:4 out of 5 stars
Summer, winter, springtime and fall this slow cooker is a mainstay at our house. The six quart size is fantastic for preparing foods for family and friends. We’ve fixed chili for 20 – just place it together in the morning and then let it simmer throughout the day. After slow cooking in a zesty sauce barbecue is fork tender (spareribs are another favorite).

We especially appreciate the lid rest which makes stirring (and tasting) simple, as well as the lock feature that keeps the lid firmly in place while cooking. The handles are carrier friendly, and the cooker is dishwasher safe.

Thanks to this cooker we no longer shy away from feeding a crowd, and we’re pleased to do it!

  30. No Name says:

    Simple to Handle
    Rating:5 out of 5 stars
With only two reviews to go by, it was somewhat hard to choose to buy this product; but, I’m glad that I did. The handles make it very simple to carry, especially when the pot is full, and the secured lid is wonderful – no spills or losing of the lid while in transport! Something that one should know if purchasing this product is that the handles do get warm.

If you’re one that does the potluck dinners, then this is a excellent traveling pot. It is not as awkward to carry, especially when it has food in it (as apposed to the other crock pots, where your knuckles brush against the side and you get burned while carrying it).

Personally I can only find one fault with this product and that is with the handles getting warm, but if I can carry/hold it for about 5 mins. without dropping it or setting it down, then it’s not all that terrible.

I bought mine at a store, so the price was under $30. Needless to say, I’m pleased with this product.
