Energy Inefficient by poor design
Rating:1 out of 5 stars
For a lousy dollar or so in added insulation cost and electronic controls, they could have made a product that used 3 to 5 times less energy than this unit. That dollar or so savings for All-Clad costs you an extra 40ยข or so per meal cooked.
The lack of insulation means that the outside runs hot enough to burn you and heat up the room (not excellent in the summer) and any competent designer can really eliminate this problem.
We took our unit back and bought a cheap one instead. If All-Clad wants a premium price ( $200 range ==== 5 -7 times higher than the competition), they should deliver a superior product with superior performance and energy efficiency.
If you insulated the sides, bottom and made a double layer lid, you could slow cook for nearly no energy cost, after you reached operating temperature (assuming that you also used a thermostat to control the temperature for quick heat up). Now you may have a product that is worth some extra money.
As is, recommend that you not buy this clearly poorly designed, overpriced product.
Dont waste your money, sub-standard product

I bought the All-Clad 7 Qt Slow Cooker Model # 99005 a small over a year ago and have only used it 8 times. I paid $367 from Williams-Sonoma store and now its not working. The power button won’t come on and the unit will not heat up. The customer service people at All-Clad are telling me that its out of warranty and I need to send it to a repair center at my own expense and pay $30/hr to have it fixed. So, in the trash it goes because I still have my ancient standby Rival slow cooker (originally paid $15.00 for it) that I’ve had for over 10 years; used it 100s of times and it still works FANTASTIC-its just not as pretty as the All-Clad slow cooker. Lesson learned from this ordeal…just because its expensive doesn’t make it better.
so disappointed
Rating:1 out of 5 stars
Bought this item thinking it was the best product. I have probably used it 25 times in 3 years. Today, the show part quit working. I am stunned to reckon I spent that much money and it gave out and there is no warranty. I will never buy All-Clad products again. My next email is to Melinda Lee, where I got the original review from.
Faulty electrical screen
Rating:1 out of 5 stars
I have all All Clad stainless pots & pans. I had an All Clad 7qt slow cooker for the last 5-6 years and used it all the time and loved it until the ceramic insert finally cracked recently. I took it back to Williams-Sonoma, where I got a $49 credit for it without a receipt. Not terrible. But the new one was $200… so $150 later, I’m home with the newer, although smaller (6.5qt) model. It’s slick looking, but feels cheap and the other reviewers are right.. the ceramic insert looks poorly made, with bubbles and imperfections. But here’s the real kicker: I used it yesterday for the FIRST TIME to make soup and the electric unit is fried. Plug it in and it just clicks and blinks. A complete piece of trash for a brand name that usually means excellence (and expense) to me. Expected it to be worth the money. Going back to W-S today. I still have the receipt, thank god.
Stay away. Not what you expect from All Clad. Wish I had my ancient slow cooker back with it’s corroded elements and peeling push-button front. At least it worked.
What a Crock!

The all clad pot lasted for about five years. The electronics are shot (won’t heat). Was pleased with it until now. Can’t get any replacement parts for repair. Am stuck with the show cooker. Sure want to repair it instead of throwing into the trash. What a waste! Hope it is made in the USA. Need better quality. Should not fry itself after only five years of light use. Buyer beware!!!
Superseded — buy one with cast aluminum liner instead for stovetop!
Rating:3 out of 5 stars
This is an older product. All-Clad recently came out with a new one with a liner of cast aluminum, not ceramic. The liner is intended for separate use on stovetop or in oven before or after use in the slow cooker. A fantastic thought: brown your meat or vegetables first on the stove, cook in the slow cooker, then cover with a topping and place briefly under the broiler before returning to the slow cooker to keep warm during serving — all in just one pan!!!
As of today, the new version is available at Williams Sonoma for the same price Amazon is currently charging for this older version, though prices at either place may change… (keep an eye out in case the new one with the metal liner becomes available on Amazon!!)
Should be called ‘Un-Clad’
Rating:1 out of 5 stars
We spent very excellent money on this as we have been very fond of All-Clad through the years. The features certainly do not justify the cost, but we assumed the overall quality of the product would prove otherwise. Boy were we incorrect..the ceramic insert scratched within a month. We were very careful with the insert especially having read reviews of the insert cracking. Despite our best efforts (never heat or cold shocking, always wrapping in a towel, etc.) It just up and cracked one day. Having happened within the year, we thought, well at least there is the warranty and excellent customer service. Incorrect again, forwarding our product information, serial, and even photos. They sent a series of harsh emails that amounted to them denying that the thing was even under warranty. There was nothing I could do. Trust me…they know this product is deeply flawed. Now I cannot find the insert available anywhere and all clad customer service has not so much as responded to any requests for a simple url where we can buy a replacement. Its like the opposite of help. Save your money and more importantly your time and buy something else.
Careful while washing!
Rating:2 out of 5 stars
I loved my slow cooker until the day the insert broke. I was washing the insert in the sink, it slipped and tapped the sink at an angle and proceeded to shatter in my hands. Normally my clumsiness would have just annoyed me, but it was incredible how small pressure it took to shatter the entire insert. And to top it off, to this day, I have been unable to find a replacement for sale anywhere. It’s really disappointing.
Cracked insert…too terrible.
Rating:2 out of 5 stars
I bought this slow cooker in January 2009. I really liked the large capacity and the appearance of the product. Plus, it did a excellent job of slow-cooking instead of boiling the food like some slow-cookers do. I had read the various reviews mentioning the cracked inserts, but chose to give it a try anyhow because I really do use my slow cooker a lot and wanted something I like.
After 10 months, I noticed a hairline crack in the insert near the handle. It appears to go all the way through so it is just a matter of time until it breaks off. Keep in mind that I have babied this insert after reading about all the cracking issues others have had.
Realizing it had been nearly a year since I bought the slow-cooker, I found my invoice on Amazon and promptly called All-Clad customer service. They requested I email photographs of the crack along with my receipt which I did. The reason I am writing this review now is that I was very annoyed by the response. Apparently, All-Clad will replace the (backordered) insert as a “one-time courtesy”. They must be joking. I paid an exorbitant amount of cash for a product and this is it? I would expect more.
It should be fascinating to see if the insert ever arrives. I wish now that I had spent a small more and ordered the stainless steel insert or else gone with something cheaper. At least I wouldn’t feel so guilty about throwing it away.
All-Clad Slow Cooker
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
Used twice so far, kept 15 pounds of mashed potatoes nice and warm for hours. Gorgeous.
3 replacements and still won’t work
Rating:1 out of 5 stars
Bought this half price for $75 at a local store. I was smart buying it there, since they did the initial call to All-Clad so I didn’t have to present a receipt to return it. I was not smart in buying the product.
I used the first unit twice before it wouldn’t turn on again. All Clad shipped me a replacement within 6 weeks.
The next unit’s insert broke in half on the first use. All Clad shipped me the replacement insert in a couple months since it was back ordered.
When I used the new insert, the unit wouldn’t turn on again. The All Clad rep told me they weren’t having this problem with any other customer (I’d read reviews here saying they were) and wondered if I was soaking it in water before I used it. (Yeah, water and electric appliances don’t mix? What a revelation.) I told her we’ve been using my husband’s Rival slow cooker for 20 years with no problems at all and I would have expected this to perform much better. She shipped me a new one.
The new one worked once and started clicking and flashing while in the warm setting.
So 3 broken units and 1 cracked insert later and I still don’t have a functioning unit. I probably could get another replacement, but why bother when it’s $25 to ship every time and it’s only going to work once or twice? I’m through buying All Clad products. I haven’t tried their pots and won’t after this.
I will say they stood by the warranty. Fortunately, I didn’t have the same distress with them that most reviewers have had.
So far so brilliant
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
Have you ever noticed how, in car reviews, the user ratings are generally higher than the professional reviews? It makes sense. The owners picked a make and model to fit their special needs, and never had a chance to spend a week, or a month, testing and comparing the competition. We make choices based on ratings, but ratings aren’t fully reliable. That’s warning one.
Warning two is that when it comes to slow cookers, there are two kinds of people — cooks, and soupers. The soupers want convenience, and there’s no question they get it. Wake up in the morning, throw a chunk of meat in the machine, pour in a can or two of condensed soup, or onion soup powder, and you come back at night to a pot roast that’s perfectly edible. Cooks persist in doing the full prep work, which means that first thing in the morning, you’re chopping vegetables, searing the roast, and wondering if you wouldn’t be better off with one of Rachael Ray’s 30-minute meal cookbooks. Even so, the slow cooking method, really just braising, can do a wonderful job with a pot roast, lamb shanks, osso bucco if you can afford it, soups and stews. So far, my experience with the All-Clad has me very enthusiastic, although I can’t yet rate it for durability, and haven’t been in a position to compare it with other slow cookers. I can say that the review in [...] doesn’t fit my experience. There, the reviewer complained of a loosely fitting lid that allowed too much water loss and resulted in dried out meat. I haven’t encountered that, and looking at the way the machine is designed, don’t see how that could happen.
The All-Clad is a nice looking machine, sort of a contemporary design. That’s vital, because it’s heavy, and you’ll probably want to leave it out. If you don’t have counter space, you may want to get a small table or cart. If you place it in a cabinet after each use, you may find yourself finding excuses to leave it there.
It’s simple to use. The controls take only minutes to learn. Cleaning is also simple, although the insert is heavy, and on the large side. The machine does have the invaluable “keep warm” feature where, after the cooking cycle is complete, it reverts to a lower, sort of hot-plate temperature, so that the food is at serving temperature for 6 hours, but doesn’t overcook. The show shows the remaining cooking time during the cooking phase, and then the length of time the cooker has been on the keep warm cycle.
The main feature of a slow cooker is that it makes braising relatively painless, and, used often enough, can be economically rationalized since it allows for the use of inexpensive cuts of meat since the connective tissue breaks down. The All-Clad has performed flawlessly in repeated use with several low priced cuts. The other benefit I’ve found is that, compared to stove-top braising, there’s no need to pre-cook the vegetables.
Bottom line — the All-Clad is simple to learn, simple to use, simple to clean, and has made it possible to introduce a new cooking method so that I have a lot more variety in my meals. Assuming it lasts, the use of inexpensive cuts such a chuck roasts and top round roasts may compensate for the initially high price. Oh yes — a friend gave me a small table to keep it on. Without that, I’m not use I would be nearly as enthusiastic.
Terrible Quality
Rating:1 out of 5 stars
I have had my All-Clad Slow Cooker for about 1.5 years. It no longer works. The power and lights come on, but it does not heat up. All-Clad will do nothing w/o a receipt. It was a gift so I have no receipt, plus it’s over the one-year mark.
All-Clad does not equal quality, don’t let the name fool you.
Faulty electronics
Rating:1 out of 5 stars
I bought this slow cooker despite the negative reviews. After 2 weeks (and my second use) the electronics failed. I returned it and will not buy another one unless the model is redesigned. It did cook wonderfully while it lasted!
Disappointed after 1 1/2 years–warranty already expired
Rating:1 out of 5 stars
I agree with the raving reviews…this is a fantastic product and gorgeous…while it lasts. Buyers, be aware that most if not all of the 5-star reviews are written within a few months of receiving this item and not a year after when the product dies! Does anyone have an All-Clad that has lasted? This is my second All-Clad cooker. The first one (I reckon it was model 99000 or 99001) stopped heating just before the warranty was up, fortunately. Unfortunately, I had to return the full unit to PA for inspection (because they don’t believe their customers?!) and replacement. That cost me $40 from the west coast. After waiting two months and making several phone calls to follow up, I finally received this model (99009) with ceramic insert. Even more gorgeous than the first model. They changed the feet design to supposedly not come off. But, we go to lots of potlucks and with the moving from car to table and back again, the feet tore off. (And we are very gentle and respectful of our belongings.) All-Clad said they don’t make replacement feet for this model “because they were designed to not come off.” My first disappointment. No adhesive that I could find will mend the torn feet. Then, several months later, my ceramic cracked and started leaking. They replaced the insert without a problem. I give them that credit. Now, 1 1/2 years after they sent me this replacement, it turned off in the middle of cooking and won’t turn on again. I tested the outlet, I let it sit for a day and tried again…still nothing. I called All-Clad and they said that it wasn’t covered under warranty anyway because it was a replacement, but if I sent it to PA, they would consider resolving the problem. At this point, I’m not willing to pay another $40+ to ship it at my expense. For the price of this item, I am extremely disappointed with their customer service and am currently waiting to hear back from a supervisor about the situation. Hoping for a excellent resolve…
I despise to cook, but LIKE this slow cooker!
Rating:4 out of 5 stars
My slow cooker looks just like the one pictured, but with a white ceramic insert. I gave it to my husband for Christmas, but I can’t remember if it was last year or the year before. I reckon last year. We have used it dozens of times, for chicken, soups, chili, stews, beef, dessert, and a range of vegetable dishes, using both low and high heat settings. It is so simple to use and clean. I would give it five stars, but the lid does fit more loosely that I would like (though I have never seen steam escaping), and it does cook things more quickly than recipes call for. But, most recipes don’t call for such a large slow cooker. I have often doubled recipes and had them cook in the same amount of time at the recipe calls for. Using a slow cooker does make the house smell wonderful for hours, which is lovely. Better Homes and Gardens published a Slow Cooker edition of their magazine that contains 120 recipes, and that is our go-to place for meals. I recently bought the Slow Cooker Bible, but have yet to try any of those recipes. My cooker is currently in the process of testing a sweet potato recipe for Thanksgiving; another benefit is that it as excellent as adds another oven to your kitchen without taking up nearly as much space, even though the capacity is huge. Wish I could give it 4.5 stars.
This is our first electrical product from All-Clad, though all our pots and pans are also All-Clad, both stainless and non-stick. We are also Cooks Illustrated devotees, and All-Clad products are nearly always highly recommended. This crock pot was THE most highly recommended. No regrets.
Won’t last
Rating:1 out of 5 stars
We received this as a wedding present and used it less than 10 times.
We came home last weekend to cold pot roast.
The slow cooker has died, and we are unable to revive it.
I’m considering replacing it with the Crockpot SCVT650-PS 6-1/2-Quart Programmable Touch Screen Slow Cooker, Stainless, or I may just forget programmable circuitry and get the Hamilton Beach #33162H 6QT Stainless Steel Oval Slow Cooker. I know I won’t buy another expensive All-Clad P.O.S.
Poor quality…Go with Hamilton Beach – Better Value
Rating:1 out of 5 stars
Slow cooker broke after 8 uses – electronics went dark. For $200, you expect much more.
After several uses, I recommend Hamilton Beach Set ‘n Forget Probe Slow Cooker. Hamilton is 25% of the price of the All-Clad. It is lighter weight (the All-Clad is a beast). It is smaller without giving up much interior cooking space. Hamilton Beach has more programmable options and has built in thermometer.
All-Clad 99009 Stainless Steel 6-1/2 Qt Slow Cooker
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I have only had the chance to use this slow cooker on 3 occasions, but so far I like it! The temperature/cooking time is much more accurate than my ancient Rival Crock-Pot.
broken after 6 uses
Rating:1 out of 5 stars
may be a fluke, but this expensive crockpot broke after six uses…it’s been three months and I’m still waiting for a replacement from the manufacturer…
I returned it.
Rating:1 out of 5 stars
I returned this product because it was way too large and looked out of place on my countertop. Also the cooking vessel was too large as well. I felt I would have to be in the restaurant business and cook for a crowd to be able to utilize this slow cooker.
EXCELLENT WHILE IT LASTED? Terrible Electrical Unit…
Rating:1 out of 5 stars
I was excited to receive this ALL CLAD slow cooker. It arrived. I made 3 wonderful roasts.
And then, like another review, in the middle of cooking, the electrical unit failed. Just like the other review – the electrical read out all turned to 8′s – and just stopped. Arghhh! Nothing worse than being in the middle of an 8 hour slow cook – and have it stop.
And unfortunately, Amazon’s return on this is up within weeks.
I have called All Clad’s customer service line. They are to give me a call back. I will keep you posted on the details of this return.
But so far, it looks like several of us are having the same electrical problems.
CAUTION CAUTION CAUTION in purchasing!
(updates to come later…)
UPDATE: August, 2009: After returning the electrical unit to All Clad – it took them three weeks to finally give me a call back. They said there were no more electrical units, and that they were going to wait until shipments in NOVEMBER to send me a new one?
SERIOUSLY? No opportunity for refund. No opportunity for a different product. Their only answer was to wait until November.
I suspect they have some serious technical or quality issues with this unit.
I DON’T RECOMMEND YOU BUY.
I am so disappointed in both the brand and the All-Clad level of service! I have so many other excellent products. I am certainly going to stay away from anything they make that is electrical. I advise you to do the same!
Don’t buy garbage
Rating:1 out of 5 stars
This is an expensive piece of garbage. The ceramic liner cracks easily. Had it less than 30 days before it cracked. No mishandling. Replacement liners aren’t available. All-Clad doesn’t have them (they’ll call me if and when they become available). For this much money you’d expect quality. My ancient Crockpot never cracked. And I had it for 20 years. This was supposed to be an upgrade. Instead I wasted my money. Don’t you do the same.
cracked insert x 2!! fantastic while it lasted
Rating:2 out of 5 stars
I loved the slow cooker… until the ceramic insert cracked! I was hearing small popping noises and didn’t know what it was. Then I realized that the the insert had cracks! All Clad wanted the original receipt to replace it, so we took it back to bed bath and beyond and they exchanged it. The second time we just out right returned it. The cracks all happened within 3 months of use with no extreme temperature change William sonomas is recommending that we try the more expensive one with the heat-responsive cast-aluminum insert that functions as a cookware in itself (can go on the stove top)… a hundred dollars more!! but may consider it since it got really much better reviews. Btw, WS told us that many are reporting the same cracked issue with the ceramic insert and everyone has been thrilled with the heat-responsive cast-aluminum insert one… go figure…
Poor manufacturing quality
Rating:1 out of 5 stars
Used the product for over a year before it failed. The problem appears to be cheap, poor quality manufacturing in the heating element. I live near the All-Clad facility in Canonsburg, PA, so I regret saying that outsourcing to China requires a fantastic deal of effort to maintain quality control, which effort isn’t shown in this product.
If it breaks, you have to throw it away
Rating:1 out of 5 stars
I was thrilled to receive this cooker as a gift eighteen months ago. I used it a lot, and was very pleased. But when I plugged it in last week, the screen filled with 8s and it wouldn’t turn on. The warranty is for only one year, so we went local to repair it. No luck – All-Clad doesn’t supply parts. So we called All-Clad and were told that they don’t do repairs. They told us to buy a new one.
So it’s a fantastic cooker until it stops working. I reckon we’ll use the ceramic insert as a planter.
Brilliant product
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
Although there are only two of us using the cooker, it’s a excellent size to make dinner with some leftovers. It’s simple to clean, but very heavy. I’m very pleased with this slow cooker.
Nearly perfect
Rating:4 out of 5 stars
Like, like, like this fantastic quality piece of equipment!
After accidentally dropping the ceramic insert of my CrockPot (helpful hint: ceramic and travertine are not a excellent recipe), I was coveting this slow cooker. Received it as a gift about a year ago and have been very, very pleased with it. The only thing that makes it less than perfect is the lack of a dual level heating program. I.e., I can set it for X number of hours on low, or X number of hours on high, but can’t set it for X at high and have it switch to Y at low. But it’s a minor gripe, and I do like the automatic warm feature.
Buyers should realize, but, that this is a very large capacity cooker. I sometimes find myself using a dutch oven on the stovetop for smaller quantities, as it can be just a bit too large for certain recipes.
Also, it is quite heavy, probably due to the very high quality stainless steel of the body. It’s much heavier than my ancient CrockPot. So, if you have back problems, strength issues, arthritis, etc., you might want to visit a store and try handling this to be sure it’s going to work out okay for you.
Lives up to the reviews
Rating:4 out of 5 stars
All the reviews say this is the best large slow cooker. I’m a believer. l tried the Calphalon 7 qt. and I really wanted it to work, but it cooked way to hot. The All-Clad has done a gorgeous job. It is worth the price and the only reason it doesn’t get five stars – there’s no cookbook. Better Homes and Gardens “Cook once – Eat Twice” is a life saver. Go buy it and save yourself time in the kitchen.
OK while it worked
Rating:1 out of 5 stars
I bought this slow cooker based on the All-Clad brand reputation, and based on my experience with various All-Clad cookware.
Out of the box, it looks fantastic. I thought “Fantastic! Something that at least looks excellent sitting out where it’s convenient to use it.”
Over a 6-month period, we used it maybe 10 times. Not exactly hard use. Then the electric control stopped working. Plug in, control flashes and clicks, no buttons work.
About this time I’m thinking maybe I should have kept the receipt. It’s a slow cooker, what can go incorrect? Sigh.
I contacted All-Clad. Would not accept return of pristine unit without receipt. Manufacture date code on unit placed it out of warranty (1 year) by about 2 months. Could not convince them that it was reasonable that the unit had been in supply chain for more than 2 months before sale. No recommended repair facilities. All information about the electric control unit and/or its manufacturer is “proprietary”.
End result – All-Clad refused to stand behind their defective product in any way whatsoever.
Pricey + dead after 10 uses + customer service run-around = 0 stars.
